Zheng Taishi - War of Two Suns (Book 1: The Stream-Enterers)

Overview

Before its demise in the Chinese Cultural Revolution, the Chanpa, or Lotus Moon, Buddhist order taught the peoples of the East for centuries. Warriors placed under their tutelage became the Taishis, who in turn became heroes of legend throughout South and East Asia. In the present, Chanpa's last known surviving member, Alexander Gan, runs the Tsuki Kai martial arts dojo in Washington state, with his friends and fellow teachers, Russ Lovell, and Emile Turke. To face an old enemy, the crime syndicate known as the Kingdom of the Red Sun, Gan has scrutinized and chosen select students as new Taishis: Lily Shang, loyal to Gan yet plagued by fear of loss; Jack Zaitao, a cautions man facing doubt over his path in life; Dillon Rajasingha, who has intellectualized his way to religion and is now put to the test; and Vincent Bogatyr, a musician embracing the warrior's mantle to escape decadence. Together, the Taishis battle Red Sun, as war between East and West looms on the horizon. But things are further complicated by another masked vigilante with a mass following, the Fire Angel Renata. She knows the secrets of Chanpa and Red Sun, and yearns to destroy both. Two suns shine above, two visions for the fate of civilization. Will the Taishis overcome themselves and attain Awakening to prevail, or will the sparks of revolution set the world ablaze?
