OverviewYou Should've Been There, is the warmth, stillness and defining moments of my life and the lives of the most loving people I once knew and know. It journeys back though a time where rolling down hills, and where dancing till I got dizzy was my only care in the world. It was the imagination of me, a small child giving voice of the world as I saw it. And as I got older, there had been something that was screaming to get out and that was my story. Somehow, I knew along with the great of all greats I too had, true heart and true meaning and I too had a place in history. I learned just how powerful story was towards healing, forgiving, and giving voice to un-masking the truth. Those truths gave me a sense of urgency to take all that saw, heard and experienced to take pen to paper to write a book of fictional, nonfictional and historical happening where love for family was profound, where the shaping of identity was being formed and the lessons of forgiveness was learned. It was how the place, power, and potential my story was developed. It was about (if only to me) my sense of healing and wellness. And unbeknownst to me, I didn't know it at the time, but it was a time where I realized all the characters in my stories (including myself) were on a journey of experiencing life. As I wrote and recanted those experiences my memories give me a sense of warmth and a sense of stillness that helped me to listen and as I listened there were defining words of wisdom from the unsung heroes of our Mama. Those Mama used to say words were so much part of the narrative that taught me to survive live and profoundly helped me to understand just how blessed I/we had been. You Should've Been There is enriched with the artwork of Eli, my endearing brother who helped me capture the true essence of what it was like growing up. The book is a sharing experience for the reader where hopefully their senses will be awakened to their very own story where they can say, You Should've Been There.
