Overview""Aled Jones Williams is a completely distinctive poetic voice in contemporary Wales, but English-speakers are only slowly being introduced to his work. Language: English, Welsh Table of ContentsReviews‘These enigmatic little poems are experiments in faith suitable for the twenty-first century; meditations on the mysterious survival of the word ‘god’ in the vocabulary of avowedly secular modern societies. Before resigning from the Welsh Anglican clergy, Aled Jones Williams was R.S. Thomas’s parish priest during his last years, and his remarkable poetry confirms him to be a worthy heir of his great predecessor. The Very Reverend Rowan Williams, former Archbishop of Canterbury, is one of his most prominent admirers. Neither these poems nor the translations have appeared in print before. So this is a landmark volume.’ M. Wynn Thomas, Emeritus Professor of English, Swansea University -- Cyhoeddwr: H'mm Foundation Author InformationAled Jones Williams In 2002 at the National Eisteddfod held at St Davids, Aled Jones Williams won the crown for a long poem (pryddest) entitled Awelon (Breezes). Prior to that he was best known as a dramatist working in Welsh-language theatre. Amongst the plays are: Sundance, Tiwlips, Merched Eira, Iesu! (Jesus!) Some of his prose works – mostly short fiction and part memoir – have been nominated for the Welsh Book of the Year six times. By now he concentrates on poetry and the Very Short Story, his most recent work being a series of inter-connecting stories in that vein, Colin yn y Bys Sdop, as well as a confessional work, Reit Rownd. Brought up in a Vicarage, he himself spent some years in parish ministry. He was also for a time a member of the L’Arche Community in Liverpool. M.
