OverviewNothing is really happening here. Does this sentence, as an excuse, work every time you decide to look away from the overwhelming reality? Clearly, Xiuwenbo Wang had a lot of thoughts on that question. As an emerging visual artist whose experience spans a variety of artistic directions such as printmaking, new media, graffiti and typography, Wang has been exploring the dynamics of aesthetics, contrasting the simple and obscure concepts in order to navigate a sense of otherness reflecting the relation between collective cultural identities and the whole society, integration and segregation. Inspired by the philosophies of Taoism and Existentialism, calligraphy, semiotics, social awareness and pop culture, his work moves towards a more refined expression of defiant and playful style. Collected here, among never-before-published artworks and writing during the COVID-19 pandemic, is an archive of his most personal journal that reveals every out-of-focus corner, such as, the silenced majority, immigrants, war, children right, and most recent BLM and Stop Asian Hate campaign.
