Author Information

Karen CHRISTENSEN is an American entrepreneur, environmentalist, and author. She began her career in London, and became a speaker on women's issues for the UK Green Party and a founding member of the Women's Environmental Network. She has served on the board of the Software and Information Industry Association Content Division and was a trustee of the University of Pennsylvania Press. She is a member of the National Committee on United States-China Relations, research associate at the Fairbank Center at Harvard, and founded the nonprofit Barrington Institute's Train Campaign. George R. GOETHALS holds the E. Claiborne Robins Distinguished Professorship in Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond. He is author of Presidential Leadership and African Americans (2015) and co-author of Heroic Leadership: An Influence Taxonomy of 100 Exceptional Individuals (2013) and Heroes: What They Do & Why We Need Them (2011). With Georgia Sorenson and James MacGregor Burns, he edited the Encyclopedia of Leadership (2004), developed by Berkshire Publishing for SAGE Publications. He was previously a member of the faculty at Williams College where he was founding chair of the Program in Leadership Studies. Crystal L. HOYT is Professor of Leadership Studies and Psychology at the University of Richmond. Her research appears in journals such as Psychological Science, Journal of Experimental and Social Psychology, Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, and The Leadership Quarterly. She has published over 50 journal articles and book chapters and she has co-edited two books. She received a PhD from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2003 and a BA from Claremont McKenna College in 1997.
