Author Information

Ben Sosniecki first picked up a camera at the age of fifteen and began photographing a subject that he soon grew passionate about - nature. Early in his career Ben had a rare and unexpected encounter with a Canada Lynx along Minnesota's North Shore. From that moment on he knew wildlife photography would play a big part of his life. In January 2004, Ben was one of ten students in the nation to receive a scholarship from the North American Nature Photography Association. His scholarship allowed him to travel to Portland, Oregon to study digital photography under professional photographers and editors, including some from Outdoor Photographer and National Geographic magazine. Ben attended Vermilion Community College in Ely, MN and Bemidji State University and graduated with a degree in Biology. He is a former employee of the U.S. Forest Service, Superior National Forest and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Chase Lake National Wildlife Refuge in North Dakota. Ben's photography has been published in numerous outdoor magazines and newspapers throughout Minnesota. In 2005, his photograph of a Great gray owl in snow won grand prize in the annual WildBird magazine photo contest. Ben is also the author of Through Western Prairies and One Moment: Images of Minnesota's Purest Nature. He has sold over two thousand photography books and has presented his work in front of several large audiences. Ben currently works for the City of Duluth's Park Maintenance Department and lives in Hermantown, Minnesota with his wife Stacy and chocolate lab, Wade.
