Overview

There is a war on America, and it is from within. It is a war being waged against the middle class, the working class, the elderly, people of color, women, the environment, and our financial and social safety net. The enemies are corporate greed, intolerance, racism, bigotry, and lack of empathy wrapped with a bow tie of purposeful ignorance and hate. This book is a post-2016 election primer meant to educate Latinos about the grave perils of being a Republican today. The author, Guillermo Rodriguez poses but one question: Why would any Latino want to be a Republican? No longer the party of Eisenhower or Reagan-today's Republican party has embraced all matter of hate as its core being. The republicans pose a threat not just to Latinos as a community but to all Americans. The Republican Party has become the party of haters, of racists, phony, hypocritical Right-wing Christians and 2d amendment wing-nuts. A party whose elite cons its base with culture issues to secure their vote to only turn around and serve their corporate greed. Hate is the glue that unites republicans while empathy is the glue that unites the progressives. Rodriguez addresses a wide range of topics including immigration, racism, workers' rights, economic inequality, religious hypocrisy, healthcare, and voting restrictions. He exposes the Republican Party for what it is the party of hate and discontent. This book is a call for Latinos to unite and commit to progressivism in support of the common good. It is a call to join the long fight to keep America from the hands of right-wing extremists and create prosperity for all and to secure our democracy from the lunacy of the Right. Latinos are poised to have a seat at the Progressive table but only by standing together fighting for the common good vs. corporate greed. Rodriguez's arguments will stay with you as we all look to what 2018 and beyond holds for our country. Throughout constantly asking the crucial question: ""Why would any Latino want to be a Republican?""
