Bruneau is a Professor in the Department of National Security Affairs at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, where he is also the Program Manager for Latin America and the Academic Liaison for the Center for Civil-Military Relations. Scott D. Tollefson was formerly a Senior Lecturer in the Department of National Security Affairs at the Naval Postgraduate School (1988-1999) and an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Kansas State University (1999-2004).
