OverviewThis is the fictional life story of three generations of white settlers in Kenya, told against a background of true historical events. William Shrimes arrives in the crown colony of Kenya in 1939, as a fifteen-year-old boy. His head is full of illusions and plans. He painstakingly builds up a farm, battles plagues of locusts, drought, epidemics, wildlife, the racial barriers on both sides. His closest friends, two Kikuyu, think the white man is crazy at first, until they realise that he is not only standing up for his interests, but for them and their village community. A deep friendship develops. With the onset of the Mau Mau threat, William becomes sceptical about whether he has done all the hard work for nothing, and doubts about the integrity of his friends. In further books, his life and that of his family in the African state are described up to the present. An exciting family saga set against the breathtaking backdrop of Kenya.
