Overview

Ever since his wife Diana's tragic death in 1876, Dan Rivers, a veteran of the Civil and Indian Wars, has lived a nomadic lifestyle, desperately trying to erase the haunting memories of lost love and battle from his mind. By 1884, Dan finds himself high in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, fixing track for the Union Pacific Railroad, and the idyllic scenery finally gives him the sense of peace he so desperately desired. One day George Westinghouse, a prominent stakeholder in the Union Pacific Railroad, and his companion Nikola Tesla arrive at the job site. Dan is fascinated by electricity, and when he discovers Tesla works for the famous inventor Thomas Edison, he tries to strike up a conversation with him. However, it doesn't take Dan long to realize Tesla is afraid of someone but won't say who. Things escalate quickly, and Dan's life is turned upside down when an engineer is murdered, and Tesla disappears into the woods with the infamous Copperhead gang, a former military unit that used to run special operations for the government. The only ones brave enough to pursue the killers over the mountains and across the desert to solve the mystery are Dan, an old army friend, Ryan Martin, a Mandan Indian known as Spotted Horse, and a Chinese immigrant named Xi Bao.
