OverviewThis research examines the role of being in an intimate relationship on individuals' facets of self and emotional wellbeing. The study examines four different types of intimate relationships - live-in relationships/cohabitation (heterosexual), romantic relationships (heterosexual, not living together), cross-sex friendships, and same-sex friendships. For each of these relationships, a measure of each individual's perceived relationship quality is taken and its influence is examined on three facets of self (self-esteem, self-disclosure, and self-monitoring) as well as their emotional wellbeing.
