We Sing Songs for Life: Valuing People and the Planet

Overview

Life can be hard, with extra challenges for those who live in poverty, who live in places with no safe haven, and who face injustice. This handbook provides some insights into practical ways to support those in need, offering kindness and compassion whilst advocating for their human rights, both in local communities and international communities that are in particular need. In addition, it gives ways to support the local environment whilst thinking globally so people can preserve a healthy planet for their children and grandchildren. Sing songs together, working in harmony to support others in need, by valuing the lives of all peoples and the life of their common home, earth.

Reviews

""This is so brilliant. What a great resource this is and how timely. I am sharing this with my colleagues who teach in this area in the UK."" --Ashley Barker, International Director, Seedbeds ""Julie's passion for advocacy and speaking out for others shines through in the pages of this book as she weaves together lived experience, global perspectives and practical calls to action. Julie's impassioned tone never descends into hopelessness but instead continuously reinforces her unwavering belief in the dignity of all people. This is not just another handbook, it's a call to conscience. Prepare to find yourself challenged, moved and most of all equipped to be a more courageous and informed advocate for human rights yourself."" --Janelle Brooks, Counselor and Adjunct Lecturer ""What a timely book. It's really a handbook for a better world. . . . It would be a great primer for community development workers!"" --Cobina Crawford, Community Development Worker and Teacher ""This is a thoughtfully written book, incredibly thought-provoking and timely, given all that is happening in the world. I love the inspirational people and organizations woven throughout, the opportunities for reflection and thought, the connection between people and planet, and so much more."" --Vanessa Hammond, Community Worker ""I am so thankful that this is being written and published. What a light in an otherwise dark world. I love the purpose of this book and sincerely hope this message reaches many."" --Stephanie Giraud, Community Worker ""I'd recommend this handbook for anyone who is concerned about the state of the world, and to all those who have deep care for the living beings we share it with. The variety of resources offered here--including educational summaries, contemplative poetry, reflective prompts, and practical worksheets--ensures that everyone will find something that resonates with their own soul and will know we're in this together!"" --Elise Bryant, Community Psychologist and Therapist ""I love this book. It is very inspiring. After I had social justice classes last year, I always wanted to do a seminar regarding justice for Chinese communities because our culture has a lack of justice. I will use it as a reference and prepare a seminar for my Chinese community."" --Lili Nui, Counselor ""Our society is losing the art of advocacy, and this handbook is an excellent way of encouraging it and teaching people how to go about it. We all have songs within us, songs of hope, love, sadness, and joy."" --Julie Freeman, Counselor
