OverviewThis is a collection of prose, poems and essays to inspire hope in times of societal chaos and authoritarian overreach that threaten the fabric of our democracy. These thoughts and reflections are constructed together to weave a message of urgency and importance to preserve our democratic freedoms and civil liberties and to connect our struggles with others in other cultural contexts who are also struggling for liberation from oppression. Our diversity as a nation is our collective strength coupled with our determination to create a more just and humane society for everyone. We deserve to honor our democracy and strive to build a more democratic, civil and nonviolent society for everyone. We must vow to reconstruct a social order that reflects our highest potential to co-exist beyond greed, indifference, exploitation of the vulnerable and hatred for our fellow human beings. Let us not wait for those in leadership to move us forward but rather let us pick up the mantle ourselves to heal and transform that which is broken and neglected. We do not have to live in fear of envisioning and actualizing a better tomorrow and we do not have to be afraid to resist tyranny and injustice.
