OverviewKelly Shanahan and Zachary Taylor Blades grew up in a Texas refinery town during the mid-50's as part of the post-war Rock and Roll generation. Kelly was a tomboy with a fervent love for horses, while Zach had the ability to express his emotions in music. They remained friends throughout those early years and consummated their love for each other on a Galveston beach graduation night. Kelly won a beauty pageant while catapulted her to fame as Nashville megastar Kelli Leigh. Zach attended college to study music. While Kelly was riding a wave of success, her personal life was one of tragedy. First, her father, who had been her guiding force died. Then, Zach rejected her offer to join her in Nashville. Out of loneliness, she married her manager Cliff Downing and began to drink heavily. Meantime, Zach was forging a career writing music for Chad Best, a famed Texas troubadour. Their blossoming careers ended abruptly when the Viet Nam Conflict broke out. Chad retired to his ranch in Wyoming and Zach went to war. Meantime, Kelly joined the antiwar movement. In a twist of fate, she was protesting in Washington DC while Zach was recuperating from war injuries at nearby Walter Reed Hospital. Zach returned to Houston after his release to write jingles for an advertising firm. Since Kelly had taken a 10-year hiatus to protest, she and Cliff were on the brink of financial disaster. Reluctantly, she agreed to revive her career. During rehearsals, Cliff is killed in a car accident. Kelly followed through on her promise to him and completed a successful tour. On her return home, she is kidnapped from a roadhouse parking lot by two degenerate brothers. After a period of no progress, her case was relegated to the cold case files. When the authorities discover Kelly's burnt-out rental car in the Kentucky backwoods, Zach sets out to find the woman he had always loved.
