Author Information

Jonathan Levin is Dean of the School of Humanities and Professor of Literature and Culture at Purchase College, SUNY. He lives in the Riverdale, New York with his wife Erica, daughter Toby, and their twenty-one-year-old, Whitman-loving cat Rosa. Poetry for Young People: Walt Whitman was Jim Burke’s first illustrated picture book, created in 1996. He has since illustrated a number of lauded children’s books, including Take Me Out to the Ball Game which he created to coincide with Jack Norworth’s 1908 lyrics. Jim has won numerous accolades for his paintings, including a Gold Medal from the prestigious Society of Illustrators in New York City. Jim, his wife, and their young daughter live in Brooklyn, New York.
