OverviewOn Friday, October 14, 2022, around 11 a.m., two members of 'Just Stop Oil', a group that seeks to end oil and gas extraction in the United Kingdom, entered Room 43 of the National Gallery in London, opened two tins of Heinz cream of tomato soup, and threw them at Vincent Van Gogh's Sunflowers, one of the museum's treasures. It is one of six surviving sunflower paintings by van Gogh between 1888 and 1889. The couple applied adhesive on their hands and fastened themselves to the wall underneath the piece while the gloppy orange liquid flowed down the glazing that was protecting the painting. What importance do their symbolic deeds have? Who is Vincent Van Gogh, and what does his artwork Sunflowers represent? When you get a copy of this book, you will learn more.
