Overview

Villa Vuoto, located in the north hills of Pittsburgh, is home to Matthew Schlueb and his architectural studio, dedicated to the design of private residences. His belief that a home is the most intimate of all space is the foundation for his practice, which he defends in this autobiographical collection of writings. Originally intended to provide insight into the factors that shaped his own family's house, this book ended up a search for the essence of a home, an exploration of his own creative process, and ultimately locating the source of creativity itself ...hidden in the imagination of a child.

Author Information

Matthew Schlueb is a registered architect practicing in Pittsburgh, specializing in residential design exclusively. He holds a Master of Architecture degree from Pratt Institute and a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from the Ohio State University. His work has been awarded by juried competitions both locally and nationally, receiving praise in print, television and online media from North America to Europe. But his greatest recognition has come from his home, Villa Vuoto, created to stimulate the curiosity and imagination of his two young sons, raised in a home that questions the conventions of western culture's lifestyle and construction techniques.
