Overview

'Vegvísir' is the name of a famous Icelandic magical sign. It means 'signpost' or 'guide', and that is exactly what this book is. In this outstanding new volume, a follow-up to ""Icelandic Magic: Aims, Tools and Techniques of the Icelandic Sorcerers"" (Avalonia 2015), Christopher Alan Smith goes a step further and teaches how to apply these techniques in your life for success, wealth, contentment, or whatever it is that you fervently wish for. Beginning with a devastating attack on the frivolities and anxieties of the modern world, he guides you, chapter by chapter, towards alignment with mythic reality and the development of latent skills that you always had, but never realised. Based on nearly 50 years of magical practice, and with an empathy born of experience, the author patiently encourages you to inherit the abilities that are yours by right, and challenges you to make use of these. There are many people in the world, all mortal. Will you be one of those who prove themselves somewhat more than mortal: the seed of the gods? *** ""Personally, I think of magic as the art and science of changing the Narrative. Narrative is not just a matter of idly telling stories; it is a powerful force in its own right, exerting itself through mythic reality, in ancient folktales, and in the story you tell yourself, day in, day out."" - C.A. Smith in VEGVÍSIR

Author Information

Christopher Alan Smith was born in Nottingham in 1954. He has travelled widely and lived in the Netherlands for five years, where his innate talent for languages enabled him to speak fluent Dutch within a few months and work as a logistics coordinator for a major transport company. His travels also include three visits to Iceland; on the second visit, he stayed in the country for 8 months and worked as a volunteer at the Museum of Icelandic Sorcery and Witchcraft in Hólmavík. Christopher's interest in magic began when he was a student at the University of Sheffield, at which time the main emphasis in the available literature was on the Western Tradition of Kabbalistic magic. However, his taste for travel, languages and a restless search for knowledge clearly indicated Woden as his example, leading him within a few years towards Rune Magic and ultimately to membership of the Rune Gild. His Fellowship Work for the Gild, ""The Icelandic Tradition of Magic"" was published in 2012 as part of the collection ""Occult Traditions"" (Numen Books). In 2014 he was awarded the title of Master in the Rune Gild for his Master-work ""Icelandic Magic in the Early Modern Period"", which formed the basis of his first book, Icelandic Magic.Today he lives in North Yorkshire and, when not practising and researching Icelandic magic, works as a freelance translator.
