Overview

The classic self-esteem measure for people with communication impairment now updated and re-launched on CD Rom. This tried-and-tested resource is the first self-esteem rating scale designed specifically for the aphasic speaker. It can also be used with people with other acquired communication impairments, such as dysarthric speakers, and with learning disabled adults. It provides an opportunity to discuss the patient's feelings by providing a series of pictures which form a point for discussion. It is short and easy to administer. It provides an overall idea of how the person views themselves and can be used as an outcome measure. Author Information

Shelagh Brumfitt is a speech & language therapist and professor in the Department of Human Communication Sciences at the University of Sheffield. Her research interests include the psychosocial effects of communication impairment, specifically in the area of aphasia. Paschal Sheeran is a professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Sheffield. He is a social psychologist with wide research interests including the nature and determinants of self-conception; self-regulation of behaviour; and the social psychology of HIV prevention. He teaches social psychology components of the undergraduate psychology degree.
