OverviewThis updated guidance covers treatment for both PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) and Acute Stress Disorder (ASD) from the clinical perspective. This clinical practice guideline is objective, evidence-based information on the management of PTSD and related conditions. It is intended to provide healthcare providers with assistance in all aspects of patient care, including but not limited to diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. Within this guideline, it defines traumatic events and stress disorders as defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders, Fifth Edition, that will appeal to military combat situations found in war zones or events of serious injury or threatened death and acute stress disorder often involves symptoms that last at least three days but less than one month after exposure to traumatic event for an individual to be eligible for the diagnosis.
