Overview

"This book was inspired by events from the author's life. When her younger brother joined the Marine Corps after 9-11 she became very involved in military life. When he left for Iraq in 2003 she felt compelled to write a story for the children left behind by servicemen and women called up to serve in times of war and peace. The characters in t he book are regular kids living with someone who is serving or has served our country. It shows today's children they are not alone in their sadness and struggles but also gives them hope and comfort. It reminds all of us that we can never forget those who have sacrificed so much and many who paid the dearest price of all. It is not a political, pro-war or anti-war book. It is a pro-military book about supporting our troops at all times. It is for the children of our nation's heroes. It is a unique book in that the pages are handwritten by real kids for real kids. ""These letters are pure, simple and filled with love, just like a child's heart!"" - Sharon Sharkey, wife of Major John J. Sharkey, USMC and mother of John and Colleen ""This book vividly represents the powerful colors of our national ensign and adds incredible definition to it. It is meaningful, honoring and an absolute wonderful story that can easily help small children understand what the fabric of this great nation is woven from. I strongly recommend it to anyone who believes they are a patriot. A great tool for understanding the heart of America."" - Todd M. Parisi/First Sergeant of United States Marines"
