Stella, adopted at birth, moves from England to Canada following the death of her adoptive parents and the discovery that her live-in boyfriend is gay. Karen is retired and lives with her husband, Wayne, in St. Catharines, Ontario, where she enjoys reading, baseball, and golfing badly. The pair spends several months each winter in Panama-the setting for her second novel, which she is currently in the process of writing.
