He is married to Barbara and has had two adult daughters and three adult grandchildren, of which one grandson is now deceased. He has three great-grandchildren, two girls and one boy. His hobbies include writing, and he has had several poems published. He enjoys playing snooker (badly), wood carving and turning and other aspects of woodworking. Since leaving school, he has had several years experience in motor and aeronautical engineering, including five years as a turbine engine mechanic in the Royal Air Force. He is now retired and has written a series of five novels, entitled The Kindling Chronicle, published by Austin Macauley.
