Overview

Living and working abroad brings challenges and stresses for the expat, whether they are now living in a city or close to a beach with white sand, palm trees and blue sea in a foreign country. Living abroad often provides wonderful and exciting opportunities for a new life in the sun, lower cost of living, lower levels of stress and an escape to something better. However, learning about a new culture, new language, new laws and different attitudes in your adopted country can be both challenging, as well as rewarding. 'Twitters from the Atlantic' is a series of lighthearted blogs about expats abroad, together with helpful tips and advice for the newly arrived or would-be expat. 'Twitters' is published in a number of newspapers and magazines across the world, and this book is the result of requests from readers for a collection of previously published 'Twitters'. This compendium edition includes the content from three earlier books, 'Living the Dream', 'Expat Survival' and 'Message in a Bottle'.

Author Information

Barrie Mahoney worked as a teacher and head teacher in the south west of England, and then became a school inspector in England and Wales. A new life and career as a newspaper reporter in Spain's Costa Blanca led to him launching and editing an English language newspaper in the Canary Islands. Following the successful publication of his novels, 'Journeys and Jigsaws' and 'Threads and Threats', and then 'Letters from the Atlantic', 'Living the Dream', 'Expat Survival', 'Twitters from the Atlantic' and 'Message in a Bottle' that give an amusing and reflective view of life abroad, he is still enjoying life in the sun and writes regular columns for newspapers and magazines in Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Australia, South Africa, Canada and the USA.
