Overview

Clinton Heylin is the foremost Dylanologist and the author of one of the most acclaimed and bestselling biographies of Bob Dylan, Behind the Shades (1991) and Behind the Shades Revisited (2003) Columbia Records will be releasing a box set of Dylan's Gospel Years (1979-1981) as the 13th volume in the highly successful and highly acclaimed Bootleg Series, a project on which Heylin is a consultant. Trouble in Mind covers the period from 1978 through 1981, during which Dylan released his trilogy of Christian albums, the Grammy award-winning Slow Train Coming (1979), Saved (1980) and Shot of Love (1981). Interest in Bob Dylan is at an all-time after he was named the recipient of The 2016 Nobel Prize for Literature. Heylin was chosen as the annotator of the 2013 49-CD box set of Dylan’s Complete Columbia Recordings by Sony, for which he was nominated for the 2014 ASCAP Drew Taylor Award.

Trouble in Mind, documents the tours and recording sessions with an obsessive detail that, at the very least, encourages the reader to come at it all afresh. . . . his interrogation of what it was all for is, to fans like me, highly illuminating. --NewStatesman

Author Information

"Clinton Heylin was described by Rolling Stone in February 2016 as ""perhaps the world's authority on all things Dylan."" Aside from his definitive biography, Dylan Behind The Shades (Simon & Schuster, 1991; new edition HarperCollins, 2001), which remains in print more than twenty years after publication having twice been revised, he also has published two bulky volumes detailing the histories of all 610 original Dylan songs, Revolution In The Air (Chicago Review Press, 2009) and Still On The Road (ditto, 2010). His previous works on Dylan include Stolen Moments: Dylan Day By Day (Schirmer, 1996), and The Recording Sessions 1960-1994 (St Martin’s Press, 1995). He has been an invited speaker at Dylan conventions all around the world; in Britain, America, Australia and most recently, in Vienna and at a university conference in Potsdam in June 2013 on the subject of why Dylan should be nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature - as he now has been. He was also chosen as the annotator of the 2013 49-CD boxed-set of Dylan’s Complete Columbia Recordings by Sony, for which he was nominated for the 2014 ASCAP Drew Taylor Award; and he has contributed ‘historical notes’ for the 6-CD set of Basement Tapes released in November 2014 and for the 36-CD set of 1966 live recordings, released in November 2016, both by Sony Music."
