Bleiberg has produced a brilliant, comprehensive, and genuinely innovative work. Presenting an integrated framework for treatment of a complex population of young people, this book retains the most important aspects of the old while presenting exhilarating new perspectives and powerful technical innovations. .,. thought-provoking and evocative....it is the honest, self-effacing clinical discussions of the author's therapeutic relationship and counter-transference issues with these patients that are at the heart of this life work's book. -- Canadian Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
This excellent book provides insight into the formation of personality disorders in children. It is useful for the clinician, providing techniques to use in therapy to help the child or adolescent develop meaningful relationships. -- Doody's Electronic Journal
.,. a feast of ideas and possibilities, and any therapist who works with children with serious problems--are there any child therapists left who do not, in this sorry age?--will be enriched by reading it. -- Psychologist-Psychoanalyst
.,. it can help clinicians concerned with the care of very seriously disturbed young people. -- Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry
This thought-provoking and evocative book....follows a developmental approach to severe personality disorders interweaving current genetic and neuroimaging research but in a holistic psychological framework....It is the honest, self-effacing clinical discussions of the author's therapeutic relationship and counter-transference issues with these patients that are at the heart of this life work's book....The clinical challenge of these children and adolescents may be daunting, but as this book shows the rewards and insights are life lasting. -- Canadian Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Review
I would...strongly recommend this book to anyone who wishes to gain some 'insight' into the world of an extreme damaged group of youngsters--be brave, make the leap, it's worth it. -- Pediatric Rehabilitation
