Travel Stories: From a Family's Year of Worldschooling

Overview

What happens when a family of five trades classrooms, commutes, and comfort zones for a year of worldschooling around the globe? From sheep herding in Morocco to snorkeling with hammerhead sharks in the Galápagos, from birthday mishaps in Slovenia to bat-filled caves in Greece, these stories capture the triumphs, meltdowns, and everyday chaos of life on the road.Filled with humor, heart, and more than a few questionable decisions made along the way, Travel Stories is more than a collection of adventures-it's a reminder that the best memories are often born from the moments that didn't go according to plan.

Author Information

Dan has always loved two things: spinning stories and setting off for far-off places. As a boy, he traveled internationally with his family and lived abroad twice-first in France during high school, and later in Japan during his senior year of college. It was during those college years that he enrolled in his first creative writing course, discovering an outlet for the many stories swirling in his head. Life, however, carried him down a different path, away from professional writing.Over the years, Dan contributed the occasional article, including travel pieces for ROAM, an online magazine devoted to family travel, and a children's book, The Girl and the Bird. But the chance to write creatively while traveling full-time has been a rare and delicious treat. While ""Top 10"" lists and ""How-To"" guides may be the more monetizable side of travel writing, Dan prefers telling stories about the people, places, and mishaps that make travel such a rich and rewarding experience.Dan grew up in New Jersey and has lived in New York, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Los Angeles. He now resides in the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County with his wife and trusty travel companion, Francesca, their three children, and the family dog, Everest. Dan holds an MBA from The Wharton School and an MA from the Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania-degrees earned along the ""different path"" that briefly pulled him away from storytelling.
