Overview

In Trapped, ancient China comes to life as Mei-hua, a young woman who must hide from her father's enemies, struggles to unravel secrets hidden in a mass of trickery and deceit. The Dragon Boat Festival marks a time of partying and merrymaking, a time to disperse evil spirits and illnesses. In the midst of these festivities, however, lurks a menace more serious than any Mei-hua has encountered so far. Her determination brings her close to discovering the evil person behind the attempts to destroy her father, a district judge. In gathering information, she searches through the streets and shops of Hangzhou City at the height of the Dragon Boat Festival celebrations. However, once in the streets crowded with revelers, she is more vulnerable and easy prey. In matching wits with her enemies, Mei-hua finds her creativity and strength are tested as never before.

Reviews

I really liked this book. It was nominated for an Agatha award which is why I read it. The book takes place in China in 1380 and is a great historical novel for middle school students studying Ancient China. by Sheila J. Martin, Amazon review The Mei-Hua trilogy books are all well-conceived and give any reader--young adult or fully adult--a look at the different levels of Chinese life in the early Ming dynasty. This book is the most exciting as the young woman, Mei-Hua, walks into danger to try to identify her father's enemies. In the process, she discovers what we might call the organized crime of the late 1300s. Each book in the series stands alone, but prepare to read all three once you start the first (HIDDEN) because you'll want to know how Mei-Hua's adventures end. by Linda, Amazon review
