OverviewEl rey de Navarra pacta con sus tres vasallos dedicarse al estudio durante tres años, manteniendo una vida ascética que excluye el contacto con las mujeres. Pero la Princesa de Francia y su séquito llegan a la corte. Existe una subtrama protagonizada por un personaje español, el excéntrico Armado, cuyo paje se llama Moth. Se hacen acompañar de Costard, un torpe villano. Armado ama a Jaquineta. Otro grupo de personajes secundarios está formado por Holofernes, pedante maestro de escuela, el cura Nataniel y Dull, el alguacil. Como no podía ser de otra manera, el rey y sus cuatro nobles rompen el pacto y se enamoran respectivamente de la princesa y las tres damas de su séquito.
