Today's Glimmer: Photo by the Bay, Volume II

Overview

Today's Glimmer is a year's worth of my original photos and inspirations - images and text that evoke a smile, a giggle or just a positive memory. I had seen a post on Instagram talking about the difference between a trigger - something that stirs up anger or sadness - and glimmers - things that make you smile and are positive. You will find what you go looking for, so go looking for glimmers. Look for those positive, uplifting little events or images in your day that make you happy. I do that every day when I get out my camera. I started sharing those daily glimmers on my Facebook and Instagram page and soon my followers were expecting and looking forward to them. I really enjoyed making everyone smile so I kept it up. This bigger glimmer project was sparked by the cover photo called, ""Last One Standing"". A group of pines near our home was cut down leaving just this single tree. While the incident was upsetting, this single tree could now be seen in all its glory against the sunset sky. This stunning silhouette was my glimmer. If I could find something good in this situation, you can find something good anywhere too. You just have to learn to look for the glimmers. Putting a year's worth of them in an easy to carry book allows you to take some with you where ever you go. Having a bad day and need a little smile? Pop open the book to any page and find something that is funny or uplifting or, at least, a little educational. Before you know it you'll be finding them on your own - all around you. When that happens, browse to the very back of the book for a little surprise. Working together we can brighten up days for everyone around us.

Author Information

Marina Pierce is a retired Air Force officer turned nature photographer and author. Living on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay with her husband, Erik, and her photo buddy, Finley, spawned her love of photography. After retiring to Cape Charles, VA, Marina would walk the beach every morning with Finely and fell in love with the critters and landscapes. She started taking her camera with her and one thing led to another. Capturing the unique animals and habitats of this region and beyond is now her passion. She uses her photography to educate people in hopes of inspiring them to conserve this very special place for generations to come. Students in her phone photography and nature photography classes walk away with not only a better understanding of photography, but a better understanding of the world around them and how to use the camera to tell those stories. She exhibits her work in galleries, donates many pieces to local charities for fund raising and uses her photo and video skills to help those local charities get their message out. One of her favorite charities is the local and state rehabbers that take in injured native animals and restore them to health so they can return to the wild. Marina was pulled into this area of charity work after helping rescue a juvenile bald eagle she found on the beach and which, after treatment, returned to the skies! This is Marina's second book. Photo by the Bay, Volume I, Two Years on the Eastern Shore, contains 250 images from her first two years in Cape Charles. This book goes beyond just the Eastern Shore to focus on images from as far away as the Galpagos Islands that evoke positive emotions to brighten your day. Her works are part photography, part education and all inspiration.
