James Herriot fue el seudónimo usado por James Alfred (J.A.) Wight. Nació, creció y se licenció como veterinario en Glasgow. Poco después de graduarse aceptó un puesto como asistente en una clínica rural de North Yorkshire, donde trabajaría toda su vida.   Estas son sus memorias de aquellos años que, bajo el pseudónimo de James Herriot, han cautivado y deleitado a millones de lectores desde que se publicaron por primera vez en 1972. Pese a que su éxito de ventas fue inmediato, convirtiéndose en uno de los autores vivos más leídos del Reino Unido, jamás abandonó su vocación y siguió trabajando por y para los animales.
