Overview

A Cold War Clown at the 'Circus?' By Aled Mawgan The life and mysterious disappearance of Britain's top naval spy, Commander Lionel 'Buster' Crabb, who vanished during a secret mission when Soviet warships visited Portsmouth harbour. 1950s Britain and the World is in a deep crisis, locked in a desperate Cold War battle with Soviet Russia. Communism is rife. Who can you trust? Who works for whom? The names of Blunt, Burgess, Maclean and Philby were about to be exposed as traitors - loyal only to their Moscow counterparts. So who was really running British Intelligence? Who was pulling the strings of all the other puppets? And was Ian Fleming's favourite spy really just a clown at 'the Circus, ' or a rather cunning and secretive cog employed, and yet manipulated within the dangerous and often uncontrollable spinning wheels of espionage and counter espionage? Read this unique and intriguing story of one man's surprisingly pivotal role, perhaps unknowingly working with most, if not all of the known Soviet traitors within British Intelligence during that incredible and memorable era to claim a highly prestigious 'secret spy' tag within Tinker Taylor's illustrious 'Circus' Empire. It was a life of semi-fantasy, extreme poverty or sheer luxury, operating out of dark, hidden and protected buildings in London, and manned by people and intelligence units that don't really exist (or do they?) - to become the inspiration for Fleming's rapidly developing new character James Bond

Author Information

About the Author: Aled Mawgan is one of those mysterious characters that are often seen in and around the small community of north Manchester. He is the person in the pub that everyone knows, or thinks they know, at least until his friends and associates compare notes. What does he actually do for a living? Where does he keep disappearing to for weeks and sometimes months on end? Why does he either have no money or loads of cash? Is that tan natural? Does he have a girlfriend or partner? Why is his private mail delivered to a PO Box in town? Why can you only contact him via a messaging service, or voicemail on a mobile phone? What do the scars mean on his arm and stomach? He acts as if he was once an officer in the services but often remains evasive when challenged. Is this book part of his secret life and have the facts - despite being officially banned by the authorities for at least another 50 years - been deliberately leaked via Aled, or obtained by other means? And is this his real name, with his age and true occupation still unknown?
