OverviewTim Brennan's new series of photographs and watercolours unravel the relationship between geography, society and the sublime. Inspired by the tours of JMW Turner through the northern regions, Brennan's images rework the canonical imagery associated with British Romantic painting. Best known as a performance artist, Brennan's images are records of journeys made through northern England and Scotland. His photographs are intentionally taken with the most basic and popular image-making equipment: a low-resolution mobile phone camera. Blown up to the scale of history paintings, his images become akin to Turner's almost proto-abstract watercolours - revealing extraordinary atmospheric conditions and astonishing colours in what should be unremarkable sites.
