Overview

"For 35 years Michael and Sheri Ginsberg owned Fine Line Imports, a wholesale women's clothing business, based in Toronto Canada. This memoir is their story - an entrepreneurial journey and behind-the-scenes look into the business of ready-to-wear fashion. The stories in ""Threading the Needle"" are all set in the fashion business, but entrepreneurs in any field will recognize themselves in the struggle to build a business and succeed in one of the world's toughest industries. Sheri tells their story through amusing anecdotes and some very unnerving tales of their experiences in the garment trade and travels in Hong Kong, China, India, and around the world. The book relates the journey from their humble, shoe-string beginnings as commissioned sales agents, to importers of U.S.-made fashion lines, to creators of their own collections, Fresh FX and Uptown Girl, and the challenge of importing and selling their collections in Canada and the U.S. Their story is one of tenacious striving, learning new skills and overcoming obstacles to create a successful business. The stories are told in Sheri's unique voice and honest style, relating the fears and challenges with humour, even when telling about some very scary times like the necessary visit to a Chinese hospital and being abducted in a taxi in Mexico City This is a very personal and revealing journey alongside husband Michael as they spend 24 hours a day, 7 days a week together to build the business and maintain a happy marriage for over 40 years."

Author Information

"Sheri Ginsberg grew up in Queens, New York. The youngest of three sisters by a decade, Sheri came of age in the 1960s and 1970s into the generation of ""hippies"". The free-wheeling style of her generation encouraged her to strike out on her own at the tender age of 19 and learned to earn her own way for the rest of her life. Living on the Upper Eastside of Manhattan, Sheri worked as Assistant to the News Director at WNEW-TV while also creating hand-made silver jewelry for her company ""Babycakes"". Her life changed forever when she met her future husband Michael at Club Med in Cancun, Mexico, and moved from New York to live with him in Toronto Canada. Michael and Sheri have two sons, Joshua (and wife Emma) who live in Ottawa with children Levi and Sadie, and Brian (and wife Casey) who live in Michigan with children Sophie and Olivia. Sheri & Michael have been married for 41 years. ""Threading the Needle"" is Sheri's first book."
