Overview

This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1714 Excerpt: ... to represent the first Degree of Velocity acquir'd in the first Part of Time: And likewise BD (=AB) to represent the second equal Part of Time, and FE (=BC =DF) the second Degree of Velocity, acquir'd in the second Part of Time, and equal in it self to that Degree of Velocity acquired in the first Part of Time: and consequently AD to represent two equal Parts of Time, and DE to represent two equal Degrees of Velocity. Wherefore the Triangle ABC will represent the Space gone thro5 in AB, the first equal Part of Time, with the Velocity BC 5 and the Triangle ADE will represent the Space gone thro5 in AD two such equal Parts of Time, with the Velocity DE (the Double of BC.) But the said similar Triangles ABC and APE ara (by Tkor. 10 of Tonng Gentleman s tlenuns Geometry) as the Squares of their homologous Sides AB and AD; that is, the Spaces gone through in the Times AB and AD are as the squares of the said Times. Thus if a Body falls ffinctlylby 0ne Mile in tllle rst Mjnute and fr kfdf. Miles in the second Minute, it will therefore, during the second Minute, considers distinctly from the first, fall three Miles. And in like manner, if a Body falls at the End of two Minutes four Miles, and at the End of three Minutes nine Miles, it will, during the third Minute considers by it self, fall five Miles, and so five Times as far as it did the first: Minute. 5. Hence it is obvious, that...
