Reviews

I really appreciate the history behind the story. Set in 1881 Liverpool, England where the conditions for workers, who had no unions at the time, and the conditions of women, who were under the governance of fathers and husbands, take on life as the characters in the novel. Definitely worth reading. Val certainly knows how to write about families and their trials and triumphs. With Val's writing, I always feel like I'm standing in the midst of the scene observing, feeling the happy times, and feeling frustrated with the character creating the unhappy times. I definitely learn more about Victorian times with each of her books. I very much enjoyed the characters in this story!! It is a great book, I recommend it to anyone that enjoys a good read!!!! Nell is such a strong woman and knows what she wants. She's been through heartbreak, sadness, and loss, but she's a fighter and makes her dreams come true. Couldn't put this book down! This series covers a multitude of problems, needing money to survive, widowhood, childrearing, problems with siblings, and the struggle for men to make the money. But, here is a woman brave enough to do something few women had done. But, to also get to do a heart's desire adventure. Can't wait to see how she does.
