Reviews

"""For anyone who was ever a bored undergraduate struggling with the mystery of how the Iliad could have been considered a thrilling, action-packed tale, John Dolan's War Nerd Iliad solves it at last. Thanks to Dolan's propulsive prose translation ... we get it at last! -- Eileen Jones, Lecturer at UC Berkeley Department of Film and Media, author of Film Suck and film critic for Jacobin. draws you deep into a world of flawed gods and fated human beings. In doing so John Dolan invokes the spirit not only of Homer's world but also of our own. The result is a living Iliad, a tale for telling by the campfire or reading by the fireplace. Writing in his own unique style, Dolan shares with the Zelazny of Creatures of Light and Darkness and the Erikson of the Malazan Books of the Fallen the ability to combine wit and drama, martial thunder and quiet pathos into a wonderful telling of a timeless tale. -- Felipe Gutteriez, Continuing Lecturer at UC Berkeley Department of Rhetoric"
