The Valiant Nellie McClung brings some of [McClung's] most significant writing into the public eye once again. It's about time.--Dave Obee, Times Colonist (10/27/2016)

This book, composed primarily of her writings as a daily columnist for the Victoria Daily TImes newspaper over several years, presents her thoughts, values, and perspectives on many different topics - many of which are as central today as they were during the early 20th century. ... The 41 columns included offer her views on topics as diverse as neighbours and home, reading, 20th century current events, writers and writing, and equality. -- (11/16/2017) The Valiant Nellie McClung brings some of [McClung's] most significant writing into the public eye once again. Author Information

Barbara Smith is the author of over thirty books, including Great Canadian Ghost Stories, Campfire Stories of Western Canada, The Famous Five, The Valiant Nellie McClung, Hoaxes and Hexes, The Mad Trapper, and perennial bestsellers Ghost Stories of Alberta, Ghost Stories and Mysterious Creatures of British Columbia, and Ghost Stories of the Rocky Mountains. Nellie McClung (1873-1951) was a Canadian feminist, politician, author, and activist best known for her role in the women's suffrage movement and the successful overturning of the law that failed to recognize women as persons eligible to sit in the Senate. McClung and four other women--Henrietta Muir Edwards, Emily Murphy, Louise McKinney and Irene Parlby--came to be known as The Famous Five or The Valiant Five for their fight for the equal rights of women. After leaving politics, McClung went on to have a long and successful career as a bestselling author and journalist.
