Overview

The Runes are an alphabet used among Germanic and Scandinavian peoples in ancient Europe before Christianization imposed the Latin alphabet. Besides possessing a basic sound and function as a building block of words, each rune embodied an idea, a power, and a divinatory meaning, which mystics could access for telling the future or drawing magical power. The book details the work of Swedish esotericist Sigurd Agrell, who brought the rune system into the modern era and greatly expanded its potentials of use.

Author Information

Fredrik Eytzinger lives on the west coast of Sweden and has studied ethnology and history of religions. His current investigations are undertaken as an independent scholar, and he has an interest in Swedish folk magical customs and esoteric applications seen from a global context. In extension these subjects also involve the mythical lore surrounding magical practice, oneiric and astral experiences, and other perspectives on liminality. He is also co-editor of the magazine Feral Transmissions issued by the publishing house Belzebez and has partaken in several music projects such as the progressive metal band Masugn and the experimental music collective Tulpa. His first book for Three Hands Press was Solomonic Magical Arts, an English translation of two Swedish books of black magic, published in 2013.
