Overview

Have you ever wondered why some people avoid conflicts or confrontations at all costs? Why does anyone want to participate in those life-threatening acts? Never been able to understand why some people are always doing and doing and doing things? Can you imagine the emotions, thoughts, and body sensations that run through a person who cannot tolerate mistakes? Do you feel that nobody really understands you? Have you ever wondered how some people can always say yes to others? Have you ever felt intimidated by some people even though they aren't doing anything to you? Frustrated with people who are very stingy with their words? Find it difficult to take some people seriously? Alfred Adler, one of the great psychodynamic thinkers of the last century (next to Sigmund Freud and Carl Gustav Jung), stated that all problems are interpersonal relationship problems and there will always be such problems unless you are the only one left in the universe. Our brains are hardwired to solve problems constantly and the obvious solution to interpersonal relationship problems is through the understanding of the human psyche. Deciphering and predicting human behaviour is easily one of the most intriguing interests of human beings. The Enneagram of Personality is a map that describes nine distinct and fundamentally different patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving. Behaviour is a complex result of our instincts, emotions, and thoughts. The Enneagram provides insights into our type-based perspectives, beliefs, mental habits, emotional habits, focuses of attention, dominant defence mechanisms, and avoidances to facilitate our understanding of the human psyche. The insights from this book can help to provide us with some reasons why we or others behave in a certain way to certain stimuli. Hence, getting ourselves acquainted with the Enneagram is surely one of the solutions to all our problems! This book is specially made for those who are curious about the Enneagram and love to read pictures. It attempts to help those who want to explore all sides of their psyche in a more lighthearted way. People who are keen on acquiring knowledge in psychology, healing, self-development, relationship management, and spiritual growth should take a good look at this resource!

Reviews

The Tribal Enneagram by Alice is different in a beautifully creative way. The pictures will resonate inside the body, create a mood and a point of view which engages a different part of the brain than the written word. This book is a fun way, with serious undertones, to learn about the enneagram. Peter O'Hanrahan, Enneagram teacher and trainer since 1981, a core faculty member of the Narrative Enneagram School. I especially like the way the author structures the description of each type, starting from the probable roles of each type in a tribal context, then exploring the perspectives, belief, mental and emotional habits which also include the higher mental and emotional capacity, focuses of attention, dominant defence mechanism, and avoidances. It is delightful to see the structure of the human psyche which is the essence of the Enneagram being concisely depicted as a tribal village of 30 huts. Tana Nilchaikovit, M.D., An Enneagram student and facilitator in Thailand This Enneagram book is not yet another Enneagram book, riding on the wave of popularity it is currently experiencing; it is a result of years of genuine, perseverant and wise personal inquiry, concrete self-exploration and in-depth research. It is magical in its way of provoking new thoughts, perspectives, insights, emotions, motivation for inner work and connections towards oneself and others. Chloe Keric-Eli, Enneagram coach, consultant, trainer This is The Enneagram book for you. Whoever you are. An easy read with multi-layers of meaning. Scrutinize the illustrations to discover the details Alice has painstakingly designed into each illustration. Chin Tze Meng, CEO of MM Grower, a partner in crime Tribal life is often stigmatised as being lesser, yet there are so many aspects of it that we need to include in our modern lives where individualism and isolation have become more prevalent, to improve our psychological health. There is a playful energy in this expression for us to see our humanity with deep compassion and accountability even when it is more often used to categorise people. Dr Paddy Pampallis, Integral executive coach, Developmental psychologist, Founder/CEO of Integral Africa: The Coaching Centre. Deceptively simple, there are perceptive insights at every turn. You will keep coming back to uncover the deep layers. Agnes Lau, Coach, Enneagram Trainer Whilst the book acknowledges the significant role that each of us can have within the 'tribal world' of the Enneagram, it also encourages us to better understand the impact we have, the development paths we can take and the important connections that need to be made with the other types for us to be effective community members. Gayle Hardie, Co-Author of 'Working with Emotional Health and the Enneagram' Having known Alice for some time, her knowledge, practice and teaching is evidenced in her writing. A must read if you are just exploring or wanted more depth. The book somehow allows you to experience both. Granville D'Souza, DBA, CEO of EQ Asia Pte Ltd. Author of 'EQ From the Inside Out, Unshakeable Spirit and EQ for Success & High Performance'

Those of us who work with, and teach, the Enneagram often recognize that each of the 9 Enneagram types is actually a tribe. Tribes share a common worldview, particular ways of thinking, feeling and behaving, and a sense of community or belonging. When people discover their Enneagram types, they often say, I've found my tribe! .
