OverviewThe book entitled Teaching Geography in Basic Education: The Challenges of Geography in the Contemporary World is the result of the final project for the Doctoral Programme at the University of São Paulo. It adopted phenomenology in the methodological approach to research for the teaching of geography at secondary level, based on an analysis grounded in the description of reality, placing at the centre of reflection the self, the student, the teacher, the human being, describing everyday school life. For phenomenological thinking, there is no world without a subject, nor a subject without a world. And yet to think that there is no subject without space, and not just any space, but lived space. The research considered that we need to become organisers of learning, of learning through new computerised means, through these new virtual realities and experiences. To show that geographical competence is associated with an understanding of knowledge, to the point of understanding that it is necessary to reorganise content, to have the ability to rewrite it and transpose it into a teaching situation in the classroom.
