Reviews

Takes you on an epic journey through WW2 Burma: So brilliantly written, evoking the utter heartbreaking journey many made over the mountains to escape the Japanese. This had me with a lump in my throat as I walked alongside the characters. Thoroughly researched and shines a light on a little told part of Empire history and mirrors the story of many in war time Rangoon. 5 Stars Amazon Reviewer Excellent Novel: I thought I would go back and catch up on some earlier novels that I hadn't read of Ann Bennett. All of her novels have been good reads - some, great reads. This book falls into the category of a great read - I could not put it down. A marvelous story of hope and endurance, with excellent characters. Do not let this book pass you by. Five Stars - Amazon Reviewer Must-read novel: I really enjoyed how the reader bears witness to the internal and external struggles faced by the characters as they try to work out what course of action to take. They battle challenging (at times, utterly desperate) situations, as well as their own moral weaknesses, to do so. Early on into the book, I simply had to find out what happened to the central characters. This is an excellent read. It is the second book I have read by this author and I am already into my third. Five Stars - Amazon Reviewer
