Overview

Harry Pendel is the charismatic proprietor of Pendel and Braithwaite Limitada of Panama, through whose doors everyone who is anyone in Central America passes. Andrew Osnard, mysterious and fleshy, is a spy. His secret mission is two-pronged: to keep a watchful eye on the political manoeuvrings leading up to the American handover of the Panama Canal on 31st December 1999; and to secure for himself the immense private fortune that has until now churlishly eluded him.

Author Information

John le Carre is the pen name of David John Moore Cornwell, who was born in 1931 in Poole, Dorset, and was educated at Sherborne School, at the University of Berne. He taught at Eton from 1956 to 1958 and was a Second Secretary in the British Embassy in Bonn and subsequently as Political Consul in Hamburg. He started writing novels in 1961, and since then has published 21 titles. Michael Jayston is an English actor born in 1935. He has appeared in film and on television in many Shakespearian roles, as well as in Doctor Who, EastEnders and the televised serial Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. He is the narrator for all of John le Carre's audiobook novels and was awarded an Earphones Award for his talent recording The Constant Gardener by le Carre.
