Author Information

The Suit Code has been a long-running project that started nearly a decade ago. Initially set up to make business suits for women that would allow for competition on level terms and to get treated in the same manner with that of their male colleagues who still wear suits for business. While building this concept the realisation that this could create gender equality for all, started to become a reality. Robert is a third-generation dress manufacturer, now involved in tailoring. His experience as a pattern cutter along with his knowledge of tailoring and dress manufacturing has enabled him to conceive this exciting concept of women's business clothing, allowing women to be treated as equals and compete in the business world on an equal basis. Robert's grandfather, Harry Bernard started Blanes of London, who were the original manufactures to mass produce the first Little Black Dress, he was also instrumental in creating many of the techniques used today in mass producing clothing. His father, Gerald Bernard, started working at Blanes, only later to start Dress Manufacturing for himself. Making clothing for the likes of Dorothy Perkins, Top Shop, Evans amongst others and has the unique position of being the first manufacturer to have the famous Top Shop window in Oxford Circus displaying only one manufacturer's clothing. Robert's development has taken many directions and feels that tradition still has a huge part in his creativity and his final destination. Taking him from dress manufacturer and his experience as Head of Bespoke in a Savile Row tailors to now making women's business suits that will put women on the map in business terms. He is the author and founder of The Suit Code and hopes you find the benefits of both the book and the clothing range, which intended to bring women nearer to achieving equality. He wishes you success and great things for you in your business career. Finally, Robert would like to challenge you to start noticing how people dress for business and is it congruent to competing on level terms? Remember developing the key skills on how to dress for business is the best and simplest way of achieving gender equality?
