OverviewThis book is the result of research for a Master's degree in Fundamental Rights, which sought to identify whether the effectiveness of the fundamental right to housing may be compromised by noise pollution in Belém do Pará, the 'gateway' city to the Amazon. The aim is to demonstrate the extent to which this environmental damage has repercussions on quality of life and housing. The originality of the study lies in uncovering facts concealed by a pseudo-tolerance that the capital of Pará would have with this harmful agent, which permeates without leaving material traces and is therefore difficult to ascertain. Hence the creation of an ambiguous and contradictory title, in order to emphasise the damage caused by noise pollution acting in conjunction with the fundamental right to housing, a correlation that is sometimes not observed, due to the covert way in which it is constituted. The findings lead to the understanding that noise pollution is a recurring problem in this part of the Amazon and ends up weakening the effective exercise of the Right to Housing, in its real sense as a place of protection; a place where families are sheltered; a place of intimacy and privacy; where there must be a minimum of health and comfort to guarantee dignified survival.
