OverviewThough he is best remembered for his novel Heart of Darkness, Joseph Conrad widened his scope in later life to include espionage, such as he does in his 1907 novel The Secret Agent. Over 100 years later this work is lauded for its visionary take on terrorism and the rise of spy networks. Though the book was not very popular in its time, critics nonetheless lauded Conrad for his effort, with many dubbing it one of his very best works. Its themes of civil disconnect and anarchism are still resonate today; the Unabomber, Ted Koczynsky is said to have identified strongly with The Professor.
