Overview

The Royle Deception tells of a 30-year journey by one man, Thomas Royle, from the jungles of South East Asia to lecture halls at a British University. As a member of MI6 he witnessed and took part in a secret history still unknown to many, leading to one huge shocking revelation. The Royle Deception is a work of fiction, based on many factual events - secret histories. A political thriller, it takes us from wartime South East Asia, Britain's involvement in South Vietnam immediately after the Second World War, The Malay Emergency that followed, and Britain's role in sending unofficial advisors into Vietnam when the Americans arrived on the scene. It is true that British and Commonwealth soldiers and airmen fought the then Viet Minh in Vietnam in late 1945, after the Second World War had ended. But during the Second World War the Viet Minh had fought alongside the Americans against the Japanese. It is true that special forces operatives of Britain's Special Operations Executive formed Force 136 to fight the Japanese behind enemy lines, in former British colonies Malaya and Singapore. It is true that many tactics developed by Britain during the Malayan Emergency were later used by the Americans during their war in Vietnam, particularly the successful use of helicopters to airlift troops into battle zones. And when Britain took control of South Vietnam in August / September 1945 they surprised the world by enlisting the help of defeated Japanese troops to maintain law and order. This is the volatile and exciting backdrop to this Colonel Thomas Royle adventure, set against a life of action, tragedy, love and intrigue.
