The Room to Be Brave: Sometimes the Way Forward Begins with Going Back

Overview

What if the key to moving forward meant walking back into the rooms you've spent a lifetime trying to escape? In The Room to Be Brave, author April Day Garcia delivers a powerful memoir of trauma recovery, resilience, and personal transformation-using the metaphor of ""rooms"" to explore the moments that shape us, break us, and ultimately invite us to heal. Each room represents a defining chapter: childhood trauma, addiction, illness, loss, survival, and the courageous decision to choose a different life. With raw honesty and hard-won insight, Garcia traces her journey from simply surviving to consciously breaking generational cycles that once felt inevitable. This is a story for readers navigating recovery, healing from family trauma, or questioning whether it's possible to rewrite their story when the beginning was written in pain. Blending memoir with reflective guidance, The Room to Be Brave speaks to anyone who has ever stood at a threshold-unsure if they were strong enough to walk through. For those choosing brave over perfect, healing over hiding, and growth over comfort, this book offers a compassionate roadmap back to the moments that shaped us-and the power to choose differently. More than a recovery memoir, The Room to Be Brave is an invitation to step into a bigger, braver life-one room at a time. Order your copy of The Room to Be Brave today and begin the journey back to yourself.

Reviews

""This memoir is remarkable. It's courageous in the purest sense, not because of what you endured, but because you allow us to witness it. You've crafted something powerful, transformative, and deeply human."" - P.S. Bartlett, Beta Reader ""Your story not only helped me understand you but also helped me better understand myself. That is the greatest compliment I can give any memoirist."" - Beta Reader ""I felt completely drawn into this story because the honesty hit me hard. It's messy, honest, and real-dark, and funny, and unafraid."" - Beta Reader ""I felt pulled in right away because of how real and open it sounded. It felt like she was talking directly to me."" - Doris, Early Reader ""Each memory lands with its own emotional hit - real, heavy, and honest without ever feeling forced."" - Early Reader ""Your honesty made me ready to follow you into every room of the story."" - Early Reader ""The balance of humor and pain gives the chapters so much emotional power."" - Early Reader

That experience, paired with her own healing journey, ultimately led her back to her story. Her debut memoir, The Room to Be Brave, chronicles her path through recovery and breaking generational cycles, told through the metaphor of ""rooms"" that represent the inner spaces where our beliefs are formed, our wounds are carried, and our healing begins.April's work is guided by her Find Your Joy Project philosophy: the belief that we must make space for joy, even in the midst of hardship. This philosophy infuses everything she does. She is the founder of Be Brave Travel, an accessible travel agency dedicated to helping families of all abilities create unforgettable vacations, and serves as President of The JD BUILDS Foundation, a nonprofit providing scholarships and support for students entering the skilled trades. After deciding to remove alcohol from her life, April found the clarity and courage to write with raw honesty about resilience, recovery, and what it takes to rewrite your story. When she's not writing or planning accessible adventures for her clients, April can be found practicing Reiki, advocating for accessibility, or finding joy in the everyday moments of family life.Connect with April: Website: https: //aprildaygarcia.com
