Overview

A rhetorical reader for first-year composition courses. Part One of this text introduces and examines the relationships between reading, critical thinking and the writing process. Part Two consists of nine chapters, representing nine rhetorical strategies. Each of these chapters begins with a definition of the strategy and an introduction to writing an essay using the strategy. It then presents pieces of classic non-fiction, a poem and a short story, and ends with writing assignments. Each reading selection is preceded by a headnote describing the author's biography, publications and awards.
