OverviewA survivable apocalypse; is that even possible? Do you ever get the sense that something is coming; some sort of worldwide disaster that will knock technology back hundreds of years? Dan and his wife Joanne believe the world is dangerously unprepared to deal with that sort of crisis and they want to do something about it. If there's going to be an apocalypse, what can they do to make it a kinder, gentler one? Dan decides to write a book about getting people prepared to act in a disaster situation and that gets them both thinking more about getting their own family ready for the future. But having a few cans of beans in your basement isn't nearly enough, not with what they believe is coming; so Dan and Jo decide to get out of the city and build a little island of rustic civilization away from other people. They invite some family and friends along and this story is all about how they go about making that happen. Dan and Jo are realists; they can make some pretty good guesses about how people will react when their world crumbles and yet they have hope for a future that's not the usual zombie filled, post-apocalyptic fiction nonsense. When what they most fear actually happens, they know it's going to be tough, but they also know that together they can build something that can survive whatever their new reality throws at them.
